Coimbra

Coimbra is a city located 150km north of Lisbon.
It's faience is painted by hand over white baked clay and can be glazed opaque and then painted and baked, the most common is painting on taccola with a transparent glass covering and going to the oven at a temperature above 1000 celsius.
The painting is very crafted with meticulous drawings, copies from the 15th, 17th and 18th centuries, where cobalt blue predominates, making it one of the most well-known and appreciated faience around the world.
The first faience factory in Coimbra dates back to the 17th century and was located at Terreiro da Erva in the city center.
